NTW Apprenticeship

During my time with National Theatre Wales (NTW) I gained invaluable experience and met a diverse network of people with different sets of skills and professions. My most proud achievement with NTW is taking the production lead on the Creative Conversation event that happened in early 2019.

My role as live events apprentice has allowed me to grow a large understanding of how live event companies works and the systems that are used. I am also a huge advocate for the company’s work and ethos and believe that what NTW does is important and is valuable to the Welsh community. I feel it is important to include people from all walks of life and contribute to the progression of live events and the arts in the modern world.

I love being organised and like to take very careful attention to details, however, I can work well in a fast paced environment. I like to make light of every situation and make a positive and happy environment for the people around me. I can use my interpersonal skills effectively to share and discuss ideas with fellow colleagues and work well as part of a team to complete tasks on scheduled time. I take pride in my work and always aim to produce the best work that I can.

I always aim to find the time to evaluate my work and see where I can improve, what is going well and where I may need support. I believe that this is an effective way to work and avoids the possibility of creating complications within my work.

Please see below the experience and skills that I have developed relating to live event production:

I have had an active contribution to the production administration of the company’s productions and projects, and have become skilful in using the company’s systems and software. I have had a hand in the planning and booking of travel and accommodation for NTW and have interacted with an effective schedule in order to keep all travel and accommodation organised. I have ordered technical equipment and relevant staffing for productions. I have written risk assessments for events and have considered contingency plans. I have spent time working on production get-ins and get-outs, arranging over time hours when necessary.

I have built a professional relationship with the production team at NTW and have supported them with various production tasks, working with budgets, schedules and time sheets, finance and purchase orders and developing relationships with networks.

Working with other departments in NTW has allowed me to experience the importance of what the company does. I have supported TEAM and Creative Development projects, I believe that what they do is important and really makes an impact. Also working with collaborations, I have had the opportunity to consider safeguarding and the importance of keeping young children and vulnerable adults safe. This is a something that comes of a natural responsibility to me and my training in safeguarding gives me the awareness to act in the correct way when faced with these situations.
